Coffee Drinks for a Rainy Day

Coffee Drinks for a Rainy Day

It’s a rainy Saturday morning in spring. Gray skies are driving gray moods as the rain dampens the ground. A monotone sky is driving the joy from your one day free from work. How do you find fun in the midst of all this wet? We have a number of favorite coffee drinks to brighten your day.

Swimsuit Brew

For those who see swimsuit season just around the bend and are watching their weight, we recommend a cup of our sugar-free, fat-free favorite.

You’ll need:

10 ounces of hot black
¼ teaspoon of chocolate extract
¼ teaspoon of hazelnut extract
¼ teaspoon of rum extract
Splenda

Simply brew the coffee nice and strong. Add the Splenda and extracts to taste and sit back and dare the foul weather to intrude on your bliss.

Turkish Coffee

For those who want to escape their confines by adding a little worldliness to their day, we suggest this decadent Turkish Coffee.

You’ll need:

1 cup of water
1 tablespoon of extra fine ground coffee ground to powder consistency
⅓ teaspoon of ground cardamom or 1 cardamom pod
Add sugar to taste.

First, add the sugar to the water and bring it to a boil in an Ibrik or a small saucepan. Once it begins to boil, remove from heat source and add the coffee and cardamom. Return the saucepan to the heat and bring to a boil once again. Remove from heat once the coffee foams. Repeat returning the pan to the heat, allowing the coffee to foam and removing it. Then, pour into a cup to let cool and to allow the grounds to settle at the bottom of the cup.

For best taste, drink with the foam atop. Do not stir as it will collapse the foam. Then, close your eyes and dream of fabulous mirages in faraway lands and let the coffee transport you there.

Gingerbread Coffee

For those who want something sweet to drive the doldrums away, try this fabulous Gingerbread coffee.

You’ll need:

3 tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee beans
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
⅛ teaspoon of ground allspice
½ teaspoon of ground ginger
1 tablespoon of molasses
Milk to taste

First, set a pot of water to boil. While that is boiling, add all of the other ingredients (save the milk) into a 12 oz press pot. Then add the boiling water. Stir with the handle of a wooden spoon. Put a lid on the pot and brew for 4 minutes. Press the plunger and pour the coffee into a large cup. Heat up the milk and add hot milk to cup for taste.

For those with a drip coffee maker, just brew the coffee and stir in the spices and molasses and then strain it into a cup.

Allow the sweet taste of gingerbread and coffee to fight back the clouds and bring a little sunshine into your day.

Mexican Coffee

For those who want an adult drink to brighten their day, we love this Mexican Coffee to lend a little equatorial warmth into a cold and rainy day.

You’ll need:

1 ounce of Kahlua
½ ounce of your favorite Brandy
1 teaspoon of chocolate sauce
1 dash of ground cinnamon
Sweetened whipped cream
Your favorite coffee

Brew your favorite coffee.  Place the Kahlua, brandy, cinnamon and chocolate sauce to taste in a large cup.  Fill with coffee and stir to blend. Top with sweetened whipped cream and imagine palm-lined beaches as you sip your way to a better day.
